xBase fume extractor and work base for engraving lasers.
Engraving lasers burn away layers of material such as glass, wood, rubber
and metal in order to make an engraving. This process releases various
gases, vapours and particles which can seriously affect the quality of
an engraving and cause serious long term medical conditions if inhaled.
The xBase fume extractor simply connects to the laser via a
flexible hose and extracts hazardous fumes using powerful flow controlled
blowers.
The fumes are
then drawn through a patented, specialised filter system before clean
air is returned to the workplace.
The xBase fume extractor protects the health of the operator,
improves the finish of the engraving, prolongs the life of the laser
and ensures
compliance
with local and international health and safety regulations.
Typical Applications
The xBase fume extractor is robust, fully mobile and extremely quiet.
The patented Labyrinth™ filter
in the unit lasts much longer and captures more dust than other types
of filters on the market, thus delivering significant cost savings for
the user in:
- Shops, Malls and Kiosks
- Schools and Colleges
- Engraving Workshops
- Craft Centres

In depth
The Problem
Fumes generated by laser engraving can damage expensive laser optics
and cause beam attenuation leading to expensive product rejects. Machine
contamination may also occur leading to increased downtime for cleaning.
Also, stringent health & safety legislation and the increasing
risk of ‘no win - no fee’ compensation claims all mean
that protecting the operator with a laser fume filtration system is
a sound investment.
The Solution
The Purex Xbase™ extracts fumes from the laser process then filters
out hazardous particles and gas using a unique 3-stage process before
returning clean air to the workplace.
Whisper Stream™ Technology
The Xbase™ features a powerful blower and silencing system that
delivers excellent performance, maximum reliability and quiet operation.
Ideal for areas where sound levels need to be low e.g. schools and shops.
VariColour™ Warning System
To ensure the health and safety of employees, the VariColour™ system
constantly monitors the condition of the filter and reports automatically.
- Green shows the filter is clean.
- Amber warns the operator when a replacement filter should be made ready.
- Red (along with an audible alarm) tells the operator when to replace
the filter.
Filtration
Stage 1. - Labyrinth™ Pre-Filter
The purpose of a pre-filter is to protect the main HEPA filter from premature
blockage by removing larger particles from the airstream. This quick
change, patented filter technology is not available from any other manufacturer
and is designed to overcome inherent weaknesses in pleated paper and
bag filter design. This pre-filter has outstanding particle holding capacity
to deliver long filter life and so keep your consumable costs low.
The small, lightweight and robust construction of this filter means your
storage and shipping costs are minimal compared with other pre-filters.
Also, problematic materials producing sticky, moist particles can also
be handled safely and efficiently.
Stage 2. - Submicronic HEPA Filter
Reinforced HEPA media is used in main filters to remove small hazardous
particles from the airstream. Purex filters are proven in independent
tests to capture 99.997% of particles at 0.3µm and 95% at 0.01µm
in size.
Stage 3. - Chemical Filter
A high performance deep chemical layer in the filter adsorbs toxic
gas before clean air is returned to the workplace.
